WORKSHOPS

Community Design Thinking 101 is a multi-day workshop that teaches the skills you need to bring Design Thinking to the people in your community. We will introduce and practice Design Thinking tools, including how to generate ideas, problem solve collaboratively—and execute projects. The result? Better ways for communities to organize, communicate and build momentum toward meaningful impact.

One Day: Bring your team out to learn Design Thinking 1.0, a complete process that helps teams and organizations develop innovative, human-centered solutions to their toughest challenges. This interactive session involves an overview of the entire process that showcases three examples, followed by an activity and hands on experience.

Two Days: Join us for a two day design thinking training, where your team will learn to run your own Design Thinking project. Over the first day, you'll be trained in designing from the community's point of view and discovering the potential of each individual within that community. The second day will be spent actually running a project with your own community! We'll also create a full scale program for your community that goes beyond just one project and embeds design thinking into their culture.

The Work Plans Work Workshops focus on building a comprehensive work plan for your organization. We will teach you how to create a work plan that is scale-appropriate and built around your strategic goals as an organization. In this workshop, you will learn how to: 1. Write lead with specific outcomes 2. Establish measurable goals 3. Prioritize and create a WIP list.

One Day: How do you plan the work you do? Do you have a master plan for your days, weeks and years or is it just another list to cross off? If you're like most people, you might not even know where to begin. Come join me as we look at many different ways to create a document that will give you purpose and enable you to stay on track with your organizations goals.

Two Days: The main focus of the two-day workshop is to gain an understanding of your current work plan and create a new version which aligns with the company's vision. Over the two days, we will go through each step of reviewing, building and improving your work plan and creating a more efficient way to manage your organization in the future. You will have the opportunity to review a number of cloud based tools to help you develop a plan that actually is used and moves your organization forward.

PLACEMAKING SESSIONS

Love Where You Live – A Hands-On Arts Placemaking Session Using Haiku: A hands-on session that uses the art of haiku to experience a place in a new way. Participants will use their imagination and creativity to connect with the natural and built environment through an interactive placemaking project.

Using the art of haiku, participants will experience a place in a new way. Every child has been taught how to write haiku, and participants will get a quick refresher and a guided experience where they will write about the neighborhood they explore together. This hands-on session is a taste of a project that can be brought to historic districts throughout the region to help all ages integrate into the love of where they are. Participants will write an original haiku. In the evening, those haiku will be projected on a surface in a rotating presentation allowing the awe of their work to be felt by the writer and those seeing the exhibition.

They are using the timeless tradition of haiku, an art form made to capture the place and moment. This fun and easy placemaking project allows communities to see their natural and built places in a new way.
